Sarah Snook Revealed the Parental Reason Her Husband Dave ‘Tried to Convince’ Her Out of Theater Job (2025)

Back in 2024, Sarah Snook signed on to play every single role (26, to be exact) in the West End’s production of The Picture of Dorian Gray. In 2025, she reprised her Olivier Award-winning performance on Broadway for West End, per the play’s site. While she’s been performing, she’s been being a kickass mother to her newborn. It’s a lot to juggle, and Snook reveals why her husband tried to originally talk her out of the play at first.

In a cover story with Vogue Australia for their April 2025 edition, the Succession star opened up about balancing motherhood and her theater work. Kip Williams, director and writer of the new adaptation, acknowledged how Snook performs “each day on about two hours’ sleep with a six-month-old child.”

“I think women are pretty amazing and when you’re in that zone, sometimes you can just go, ‘Yep, this is what has to get done. My child needs food and I’m the one who gives it to her.’ It was pretty intense. I think I’ll look back in 10 years time and go, ‘What were you thinking?,'” she said, later admitting her husband tried to talk her out of it.

“My husband Dave has said if he’d seen the show, he would’ve tried to convince me out of it. Cos he has a 13-year-old, so he knows what it’s like to have a kid. Ignorance is bliss in that sense,” she said. “You presume, you can do anything. And also the feminist in you goes, why should work stop you from being a mother, or mothering stop you from doing work? And then on the other side of that you go, well, sometimes it’s nice to just focus on one thing, and not split your time between the two and feel guilty on both sides for not doing enough at work or enough at home.”

She added, “But you and everybody in the crew and production staff were so welcoming in terms of the requirements of that, which was brilliant. I hope every new mum gets to experience that kind of welcome space for parenting, making it possible for you to feed and play with your kid and see them for a moment, even just for lunchtime. It was a really wonderful, memorable experience.”

For those who don’t know, back in 2020, Snook began dating Australian comedian Dave Lawson after knowing each other for six years prior. They married a year later, becoming the stepmom to his now-13-year-old son.

She gave birth to a daughter, whose name hasn’t been publicly disclosed, on May 2023.

Snook did another interview this month with The New Yorker, talking about how she tries to be her healthiest self for her daughter, especially during her crazy schedule. She said, “It’s valuing sleep, needing to keep nutrition up, because she’s taking a lot of it from breastfeeding. Keeping myself healthy for being a new mom also kept myself healthy for doing this marathon.”
